- English abstract
- This Welsh-language publication centres on the depiction of a future Welsh national theatre in the propagandist science fiction novel ‘Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd’ (‘A Week in Future Wales’), published by Plaid Cymru in 1957. It utilises queer theory to critically interrogate the normative and future-oriented nature of Welsh-language theatre historiography. Challenging the assumptions made of a theatre culture that habitually assumed the dramatic to be the default idiom for theatrical performance- despite the absence of a Welsh-language dramatic canon- it argues for a need to privilege the (queer) immediacy of the performance event over a deference to a non-existent tradition.
