- This is a critical edition and a “longer-form output” consisting of 304 pages. The critical edition was based on 19 years’ work (1999-2018), and is based on exploration of 223 letters written by William Laud and held in 38 different archives (listed on pp. 275-9), mostly in the UK but also abroad (Leiden and the USA). Providing the full critical apparatus was also very time-consuming, and the volume has over 1500 footnotes. Using these sources, new interpretations of Laud and Laudianism in the 1630s were advanced in the 15K-word introduction.
