- Visual media provides information efficiently and effectively, but is often inaccessible for people with low literacy, for whom speech and audio are essential. We created an accessible platform for collaborative co-authoring of blended paper+audio documents with a focus on the needs of emergent users of technology, whose literacy levels are often low, and for whom advanced technologies are out of reach. By using our platform to develop a collaborative mobile storytelling tool, we provide evidence of its value for emergent users. Our general approach allows linking user-created audio to any location on physical media such as newspapers, cards or packaging.
