- The Birth of the Anthropocene is a book-length study, totalling 72,000 words. It is the outcome of research effort from 2010 to 2016, including twelve months of dedicated full-time research effort (2014). It was published as a book by a leading academic press, the University of California Press. It demonstrates considerable intellectual scope by conjoining geological science with environmental politics. That interdisciplinary pairing, now widely discussed, was pioneered by this study. Its scope and significance are further demonstrated by over 300 citations to date, and its reviews in journals from numerous disciplines
