- The paper investigates and proposes various novel business models for provisioning modelling and simulation as a service in a commercial cloud computing environment. The paper is significant as it was the first work that analysed and proposed such business models showing how revenue can be collected and distributed amongst the stakeholders of a complex value chain for the provisioning and consumption of cloud-based modelling and simulation services. The proposed models were further investigated and implemented in the EU funded CloudSME project (http://www.cloudsme-project.eu/) and formed the basis of commercialisation by start-up company CloudSME UG (https://cloudsme.eu/, contact: Andreas Ocklenburg CEO – andreas.ocklenburg@cloudsme.eu).
