- Proofs for 1.3M word manuscript were due 03/11/2020, return 16/11, then 8 days at Brill, with final check / e-publication 24/11. Proofs were delivered pm 04/11, accessed by indexer 05/11. 2 days delay was COVID homeworking, says Brill. Indexer completed 19/11, so author, struggling with COVID teaching load & childcare, received index not in half-term but hours before classes resumed 20/11. With only weekends free, proof/index were returned on 07/12. Author hoped to publish 8 days later, yet delay pushed into Brill’s Christmas print rush/holiday. Brill set final check on 29/12/2020, e-publication 11/01/2021, though we tried for 29/12/2020. Emails available.

- Double-weighted statement
- This output (over 1.3 million words long) retrieves the later story of classical public buildings, in the period A.D. 300-650, synthesising inaccessible archaeological, textual and epigraphic primary evidence for everyday civic life, across the late antique world. It includes an original analysis of hundreds of sites for decoration, function, and especially phasing and chronology, through the application of a new standard set of criteria for phasing and dating (i.e not by simply accepting and synthesising the reports of others). A vast number of original site observations are also made, drawing on over 20 years experience of Mediterranean archaeological sites.
