- This collaborative study between Keele and Imperial College resolved the controversy over the use of statins to help treat ovarian cancers via inhibition of a common tumour-promoting protein, TP53. The study was supported with studentship funding from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) (Keele) and Ovarian Cancer Action (Imperial College). National media recognised the study reach via BBC News and the Daily Mail and was widely re-blogged in the media. The study contributed to the successfully defended PhD thesis of Marwan Ibrahim Abdullah.
