- In this chapter, co-authored by A Coveney and L Dekhissi, the analytical framework derives principally from Coveney’s previous research on variation in interrogative structures in spoken French. Study of the previous literature in the field was carried out by authors. The examples from French films are taken from a corpus collected by L Dekhissi, and she was also responsible for interpreting and transcribing the examples in their discoursal and non-verbal context. The typology of the communicative functions of interrogatives was developed jointly by the two authors, and its application to the data was also a collaborative effort. The quantitative aspects of the study were executed mainly by Dekhissi, with their interpretation being again a joint effort, as too was the writing-up of the chapter. The book in which this chapter appeared was co-edited by M-J Béguelin, A Coveney and A Guryev (who was a Visiting Scholar at Exeter in 2015-16). The chapter was evaluated by two anonymous referees.
