- This monograph is the product of two major research projects. Firstly, a 3-year, AHRC-funded project about hyperlocal news which generated: a large content analysis of over 4000 hyperlocal news articles (Williams); 34 semi-structured interviews with, and an online survey of 183, community journalists (Williams and Harte); and four in-depth case-studies based on longer interviews and observations (Harte). Secondly, an AHRC-funded PhD project (Howells, supervised by Williams) about the decline of local news including: a 43-year longitudinal content analysis (5,200 cases); 11 semi-structured interviews with journalists; a representative survey of 350 local citizens; and 5 focus groups with contemporary news audiences.
