- The research described in this paper involved an international collaboration between Bahauddin Zakariya University (Pakistan), the State Key Laboratory of Silicon Materials, (Zhejiang University) Hangzhou, China and the Institute of Nanotechnology and Bioengineering, at UCLan. It formed part of a PhD project (on an IRSIP scholarship) and was part-funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (51072180), the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities (2009QNA4005) and the State Key Laboratory of Silicon Materials (SKL2009-14). The novel materials manufactured were developed as a first step towards applications involving water purification in relation to the treatment of industrial effluent.
