- This book has involved ten years of research from conceptualisation to completion. It brings together two large and complex fields (international political economy and queer theory) to develop a new theoretical approach to the study of sexuality, gender, and capitalism. It has also entailed three years of intensive archival research into multiple online repositories such as the Gale Archives, British Newspaper Archive, and Hansard. Through the curation and in-depth analysis of a wide range of texts (e.g., policy, legal, medical, psychiatric, religious, literary, philosophical, journalistic), the book uncovers a hidden history of capitalism from medieval times to the contemporary moment.
