- Automatic quadrilateral (quad) or hexahedral (hex) multi-block decomposition has been a topic of research for many years. The key challenge is to automatically determine where to place mesh singularities. In this significant work, novel and generalised equations are solved to determine the net number of mesh singularities in 2D quad, 3D hex mesh and cross-fields. The potential applications of the proposed equations are introduced as well. The work is carried out under the financial support provided by Innovate UK, a UK Centre for Aerodynamics project, via GHandI project (TSB 101372) and under collaboration with Rolls-Royce.
