- A new algorithm to analyse the dynamic response of structures under arbitrary loads is proposed in this paper, thanks to the funding received from Highways England. When it is applied to the study of bridges under moving loads it is almost 10 and 100 times faster than the classical modal algorithm and commercial finite element software, respectively. This allowed to go beyond the current calculation limits and analyse hundreds of thousands of different vehicle arrangements in two representative bridges, which unveiled significant resonance effects that were not observed in the past.
