- This monograph is the culmination of six years of work, including archival research in four Wharton collections in the US and UK, as well as in several periodical archives. Beyond this, the project draws on a longer phase of research on Wharton, which included the preparation of several new editions. The argument is about the unacknowledged breadth of Wharton's work, and thus the book itself engages with a very broad range of relevant scholarship from different fields (e.g. visual culture, interior design, garden history, periodical studies, travel studies). The result is an extended, in-depth, multidisciplinary analysis.
