- PDRA for Humphrey-Baker funded by Tokamak Energy plc showed WC ceramic is a better material for fusion reactor plasma facing parts than currently-used W metal. Humphrey-Baker awarded prestigious Imperial College Research Fellowship during his PDRA, work was patented through Imperial Innovations: Oxidation Resistant Coating and Methods of Manufacturing Thereof, European Patent 1771 5978.7 – 1103 (29 March 2017). Was used by Prof. Lee in an Inspiring Science public guest lecture at Exeter University and led to follow-on funding in a programme grant (£7.68M Transpiration Cooling for Jet Engine Turbines and Hypersonic Flight EP/P000878/1, 2016-21) with Oxford, Southampton and Birmingham universities.
