- This paper was the result of multi-disciplinary research with Guys Hospital, London. Among other institutions, it was also funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme under grant agreement 287728 in the framework of EU project STIFF-FLOP. The results of this paper triggered the development of a new ongoing collaboration for the development of novel haptic devices.
