- This paper describes successful PhD research working with an Industrial partner, Abellio Scotrail at the Glasgow Shields Depot. The topic is a challenging research task for novel rail automation that could have real impact on processes and procedures at Scotrail and partly in conjunction with the Catapult Centre AFRC, using industrial grade robotics. The work successfully demonstrated the integration of a purpose designed vision / 6 axis force measuring system that can be attached to a Robot end effector and was trialled at the catapult centre AFRC to demonstrate key concepts for Scotrail.
