- This book draws on an extensive body of research that includes detailed primary data. 245 interviews were held with representatives at sector level and in 56 workplaces in the UK, France and Norway. This involved two years of data collection, followed by an analysis of a large body of material focused on three occupations. It mixes detail and complexity with a strong explanatory analysis. It provides a multi-layered analysis that covers occupations, workplaces and countries. Presenting the research in one book was essential to developing a new approach to comparative analysis of skills development and use.
