- This monograph represents a substantial piece of work on the under-researched implications of high levels of concern about immigration in European democracies for trust in democratic institutions and leaders. The book’s arguments and analyses required the development of familiarity with several strands of academic literature on multiple topics including political trust, social trust, national identity, and immigration opinions, from the fields of political science, sociology, and history; and locating and analysing the 20 social surveys that contained relevant survey questions to investigate the book’s propositions.
