- Writing the monograph involved ten years of intensive research and deep reflection. Support from the Alexander VH Foundation; Saint Ignatius University Centre, Antwerp; and an EUI Senior Research Fellowship provided relief from teaching and administration, enabling the author to absorb a vast, complex literature at the intersection of ancient, medieval and contemporary philosophy of action, moral theory and legal philosophy. The book was anthologised in the Cambridge Companion to Natural Law Jurisprudence, Handbook of Legal Reasoning and Argumentation and the Cambridge Companion to Legal Positivism. It was reviewed in leading journals in the field, including Mind, and Law and Philosophy.
