- Additional information
- The project was sponsored by a major European manufacturer of advanced alloys to produce cobalt ribbons using melt spinning process. The intensive theoretical and experimental work revealed, for the first time, that addition of 3% nickel is essential to achieve sound melt-spun cobalt ribbons. The paper also discloses the invention of a new “Melt Spinning” process which resolves the uncertainties associated with controlling melt temperature in conventional spinners. The new automated process was independently tested by a renowned manufacturer of melt spinners in Germany (Edmund Bühler GmbH) who confirmed the capability of the new process.
