- This paper examines how cloud computing energy consumption can be minimised while maintaining a satisfactory service. A routing algorithm that accounts for the energy requirements of components on the network is formalised by situational calculus. This approach is then tested in the field using an Italian ISP. This article was one of the first to raise awareness, and formalise, the environmental cost of cloud computing. Considered a landmark paper in the field, it is extensively cited in research papers that
are concerned with constructing efficient algorithms to manage ad hoc networks and cloud computing in an energy-efficient manner.
