- This paper presents not only the first receive-only spaceborne digital beamforming (DBF) system, but also the first dual-band (X/Ka) dual-polarized DBF synthetic aperture radar (SAR) with shared aperture. This paper describes the proposed hardware, concept and design. Simulated and measured results demonstrate that this SAR instrument architecture is well-suited for future SAR applications. This output came out of a project funded by EU FP7 in collaboration with the German Aerospace Agency, IHP Germany, etc.
