- We show that any phylogenetic network can be transformed into any other using a sequence of just two elementary operations, guaranteeing that algorithms using these operations to search network spaces can reach any network. This opens up new strategies to compute phylogenetic networks (see e.g. PLoS Computational Biology 13, 2017, e1005611). The paper also formed the basis for a Royal Society International Exchange grant which initiated a new, ongoing collaboration on phylogenetic network spaces with Professor Francis’ group based in Western Sydney University (see e.g. Journal of Mathematical Biology 2018, 76, 1229-1248).
