- The writing of Retiring to Spain spanned a fourteen-year period (fieldwork for a doctoral thesis began in 2001, the PhD was awarded in 2010) and the monograph was published in 2015. The original and additional data were re-analysed taking account of broader and more recent theoretical developments in the field of community, narrative and migration studies. The monograph comprises ten chapters and integrates literary and social theory to develop a new narrative analytical method applicable beyond its area of focus. It featured on Radio 4’s Thinking Allowed in July 2016 and has received extremely favourable independent reviews.
