- This book is based on 7 years of data collection and research, investigating the written production of a major Afro-Brazilian writer in considerable depth. Many sources were difficult to access; the research uncovered 164 primary texts published between 1907 and 1922 under 19 different pseudonyms, and involved extensive use and analysis of a large body of primary and secondary sources (the 18-volume complete works by the author and hundreds of specialist works that clarified contextual references in the original pieces) to establish the authorship of the pieces rigorously.
