- Additional information
- This Journal output is an extended version of a paper presented at the flagship conference in the field of Geographic Information Science - GIScience (doi: 10.4230/LIPIcs.GISCIENCE.2018.54). The output's research formalises the notion of place in a way that can be implemented in modern Geographic Information Systems. Using a combination of textual knowledge, logic, probabilities and machine learning to deliver a system that can answer place-based queries (that current systems such as Google Maps cannot), it led to a collaboration with the University of Wisconsin, Madison on discovering regions that support particular functionality (doi: 10.3390/ijgi8090385).
