- This is a single-authored, peer-reviewed monograph of approximately 200 pages, published by Palgrave, which took several years to research and write. It is the first major book-length study to examine the representation of this period on screen, and does so via the detailed examination of a number of period dramas past and present, from hugely popular shows like Downton Abbey to critically acclaimed dramas like Moffat’s The Village. It brings together different critical perspectives, exploring how these texts represent gender, class and national identity and what they tell us about our contemporary world, as well as our shared past.
