- Bombing Pompeii is a very substantial book (pp. 321 + xviii) that required sustained research effort over more than five years. It drew on a wide range of primary archival material in the UK, Italy and the US, access to much of which required travel to the archives themselves. Its interdisciplinary character required the author to develop the necessary expertise to approach the topic from a range of different perspectives, and the preliminary findings of the research were tested by presentation to professional military as well as academic audiences, with their feedback incorporated in the final version of the monograph.
