- The $10bn market is driving MLCCs towards higher operating temperatures whilst reducing/removing rare-earth (RE). Development of RE-free formulations is challenging with little iterative data at the disposal of manufacturers. This paper details the novel development of a uniquely fast computational method of optimising multi-layered ceramic capacitor (MLCC) formulations. The work successfully predicted and validated optimised structures in partnership with AvX (contact: Product Development Manager). It is now licensed through a KTP (KTP011028) for commercialisation - to make the next generation MLCCs for electric cars (high voltage, high temperature), allowing use of new formulations, reducing time to market whilst increasing sustainability.
