- Published in one of the top two journals on control engineering, this paper has initiated a new research branch in networked control systems by defining, with clear engineering justification, a new research problem of protocol-based filtering problem of time-varying networked systems. This new problem has quickly attracted research attention from both signal processing and control communities. In particular, the way of recursively designing the desired time-varying filter parameter under the protocol scheduling effects in Corollaries 1 and 2 has been frequently employed in a series of follow-up journal papers since the publication of this paper.
