- In this work funded by EPSRC LiME Hub (EP/N007638/1), we have developed a new concept of growth restriction that allows for the first time for accurate quantitative description of growth restriction of solute elements in both binary and multi-component alloy systems, and hence making a significant contribution to the solidification science. This work together with a body of theoretical and experimental work by my research group have led to a more complete understanding of the effect of solutes during solidification, which is presented in a recent review paper (Prog. Mater. Sci. 2021, accepted for publication).
