- This substantial (244 pp.) monograph is the first study of Japanese religions under globalization and study of the effects of global trends on local religions. It addresses interdisciplinary topics such as globalization, religious studies, Japanese studies, sociology, anthropology, and ecology. It is organized around concrete case from the two Japanese religious traditions, Buddhism and Shinto, and analyses several new religious movements in areas concerned with globalization (ecology, inter-religious dialogue, and politics). The book draws on material written in English and Japanese to investigate the dynamics systematically with broader theoretical questions, cross-cultural similarities, the definition of religion and ethnocentrism
