- Volume 1 of this edition makes half of Hardyngs lengthy Middle English Chronicle available in print for the first time. Edited from a unique witness in The British Library (accessible to only a select number of scholars), the text is supported by an Introduction, Explanatory Notes, Glossary and Index, which are underpinned by many years of extensive data collection and critical analysis of complex (unedited) materials in Latin, Anglo-Norman and Middle English. The volume provides new critical and contextual insights into Hardyngs life, social milieu, and sources, as well as the first thorough examination of the manuscripts production circumstances.
