- This substantial volume was conceived and edited by van Wyhe. It originated in an international conference held at the University of York in September 2010, likewise conceived and organised by van Wyhe. Van Wyhe was responsible for a lengthy introduction (pp. 1-40: 'Getting under the Skin of the Imaged Body'), in which she outlines the larger rationale of the volume, which she determined. She was solely responsible for commissioning and editing a further 12 chapters by 13 different scholars.
