- Published in a CORE2020 A* outlet, this output introduces a novel technique for learning macro-operators, hence adapting the planner's domain model which produces improvements in the performance of domain-independent planners. An output of EPSRC project EP/J011991/1, it led to a rich seam of research: adaptation in online planning, macro-operators for critical sections, and macro-operator evolution, as described, respectively in our non-REF-submitted papers at IJCAI-2015 https://www.aaai.org/ocs/index.php/IJCAI/IJCAI15/paper/view/11035/10877, AAAI-2019 https://ojs.aaai.org//index.php/AAAI/article/view/4746 and JETAI https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/0952813X.2019.1672796?scroll=top&needAccess=true&journalCode=teta20. Outside our group, this work inspired the use of macro-actions in robotics (https://ojs.aaai.org/index.php/ICAPS/article/view/13868) and a line of research focused on exploiting reformulation on more expressive symbolic models (https://ojs.aaai.org/index.php/ICAPS/article/view/6665).
