- The intensification of inter-Asian contacts has caused a surge in transborder collaboration since the late twentieth century, resulting from the partial dissolution of political barriers and strengthening of economic relations between Asian nation-states in the post-Cold War order. This monograph is the result of ten years of research. It incorporates extensive fieldwork with theatre companies based in China, Taiwan, Hongkong and Singapore, and in festivals in Europe and beyond, and theorises "transnational Chinese theatre" for the first time. The book documents and analyses the companies' performance practices, collaborations and exchanges, as well as the festivals and networks that connect them.
