- This book represents the culmination of more than ten years of archival and ethnographic research: microfilms of the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner (daily paper, dates from 1 January 1963 – 31 December 1969) and the Berkeley Barb (weekly underground newspaper, dates from 1965-69); local magazines including Ramparts (1965-69) and Rolling Stone (1967-70); new interviews with over 70 members of the original Haight-Ashbury community; attendance at memorial and commemorative events in the San Francisco Bay Area; and the analysis of private and historic recordings from the period 1963-70.
