- Double-weighted statement
- This large book (135,000 words) analyses cultural exchange in illustrated religious texts across Europe and in missions to Asia. It combines disciplinary perspectives (history, art history, literature, and theology) in a collaborative investigation of thirteen scholars working in six languages. By examining exchanges across national and confessional boundaries it brings together a large body of primary material (65 images and 200+ texts) which would not normally be analysed in one project and which is the foundation for its principal argument: that neat binaries between Catholic and Protestant uses of imagery do not accord with historical reality.

- Additional information
- This book emerged from a conference on the visual culture of post-Reformation Europe held at Utrecht University in 2011. I was invited to co-edit this book with the conference organisers (none of whom are native English speakers) because of my expertise in Protestant visual culture. The book is large (135,000 words) and my written contribution (10,000-word chapter and 10,000-word co-authored introduction) equates to 15%. I wrote the first draft of the introduction (Els Stronks and I shaped the final version) and was therefore heavily involved in the shaping the volume intellectually. As the native speaker I took the lead in the editing of the 14 chapters and preparation of the final MS.
