- Additional information
- This collection presents a selection of original papers arising from two international symposia, organised by Rand, which were supported by a British Academy-funded International Partnership and Mobility Award for which Rand was the principal investigator and grant holder.
Having led the BA project – “Re-newing the military history of colonial South Asia: culture, society and the Indian Army” – Rand was responsible for editing each of the individual chapters. He also co-authored the Introduction (pp. 1-21) and contributed one, single-authored chapter “From the Black Mountain to Waziristan: culture and combat on the North-West Frontier” (pp. 131-156) based on original, archival work undertaken in the UK and in South Asia during the project.
