- This 276-page monograph is the culmination of four years of sustained research, involving three annual research assistants during the archival research stages and concluding with a six-month Cardiff University sabbatical to complete the writing up. Primary research and original analysis was carried out into hitherto uncharted media realms, including British newspaper archives, a range of British television and advertising archives, the history of martial arts magazines, book publication in the British context since 1906, English language film since the 1940s, and anglophone popular music videos and gaming since their inception in the 1970s and 1980s.
