- James jointly edited, with Timothy Whelan, this critical edition of an 1819 novel, sharing responsibilities between them. They co-wrote the substantial (18,000 word) introduction, with James developing the critical framework to help understand this under-researched female writer. James and Whelan were jointly responsible for the transcription of the text, which is based on the only extant edition of the novel, which had been supposed lost. James also took lead responsibility for the literary and critical context and the bibliography. James' research on this female writer connects to the AHRC-funded project, 'Women's Writing in the Midlands, 1750-1850', for which James was Principal Investigator.
