- Wanderwords: Language Migration in American Literature (Bloomsbury, 2014) is the result of twelve years’ research in multilingual American literature, the history and sociology of American immigration, and linguistics (primarily socio- and psycholinguistics). This ground-breaking, extensive (320pp) and interdisciplinary study of literature in English-with-other–languages (including Yiddish, Dutch, Latin, Italian, Polish, Mandarin and Spanish) necessitated additional language acquisition (Spanish) as well as archival research on immigrant life-writing and the history of US immigration, using multilingual sources. The underpinning research was supported by funding from the Canadian High Commission and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
