- This book combines the screenplay of the feature film 'OXI: An Act of Resistance' with critical commentary by the director Ken McMullen and the book’s co-author Martin McQuillan. 'OXI: An Act of Resistance’ is a feature-length film which interprets the origins and consequences of the Greek socioeconomic crisis of 2008-2014 through a combination of textual and oral sources and cinematic genres. McMullen wrote and directed the film which was produced in association with Kingston University and the Greek Film Archive. The film was submitted to REF2014 http://eprints.kingston.ac.uk/25843/.
The 2015 book, co-edited/authored by McMullen, contains McMullen’s sole-authored essay ‘Memories, Dreams, Ghosts and Friends: Free Associations on the Making of a Feature Film' which provides original reflection on the film-maker’s research process (pp. 93-132). The book also contains the full transcripts of the previously unpublished interviews with philosophers, politicians, economists and journalists undertaken as part of the research for the film, elements of which were used in the final cut. These other texts establish a context, therefore, for McMullen's own essay. Interviews are with Étienne Balibar, Hélène Cixous, Antonio Negri, Manolis Glezos,Theodoros Terzopoulos and Kostas Vaxevanis.
