- This paper was submitted to a special issue in response to a direct invitation. Tissue systems is a model of distributed systems for which there is an assumption that enabled activities are executed in synchronised pulses within localities/sub-systems. This paper introduces and investigates tissue systems with a novel feature - overlapping localities – added to model situations where external stimuli can affect several sub-systems. Its results can be applied to model/design Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous (GALS) systems, e.g. biological systems or VLSI circuits.
