- This wide-ranging book is based on four decades of original fieldwork involving interviews and observations of thousands of pre-mechanised farmers across Mediterranean Europe. Analysis and synthesis of original data and integration with published sources from numerous disciplines were multi-year tasks. Writing the monograph, including research into the archaeological/ancient historical applications which conclude each chapter, and was supported by a year of Department- and AHRC-funded leave.
