- This 100,000-word book is based on extensive research conducted from 2010 to 2019 in several Italian archives. It investigates a range of multi-media urban, architectural and artistic projects. It is the first study entirely dedicated to Rome during the pontificate of Paul III. Taking a multidisciplinary approach and using hitherto unpublished sources, the book analyses artworks, streets and piazzas and engages with key themes of current scholarship, such as the intersection of art, politics and propaganda, as well as with forms of resistance to the imposition of authority.
