- The paper reports on a multi-component mean field approach of precipitate evolution that accounts for the spatial distribution of particles. The approach is demonstrated on multimodal nickel-based superalloys and has been extensively applied by the process modelling team at Rolls-Royce through Innovate UK/ATI funded programmes, Manufacturing Portfolio (project number 113084) and UHTNA (project number 113072), to down select next generation disc nickel-based superalloys and identify heat treatments for optimum high temperature strength. Predictions of phase transformations based on the model for additively manufactured components received 1st prize in the AM-BENCH 2017 challenge.
