- Transcultural Lyricism investigates the modern transformation of Chinese literature based on the investigation of an extended corpus of literary texts. A large amount of archival work was carried out, and Liu was able to uncover the source texts of several Chinese literary translations of great import to the development of modern Chinese literature. The monograph approaches literary influence in considerable depth, by integrating theories of translation studies with those of intertextuality studies. The research situates itself in relation to a wide range of different contexts, including Chinese literature, world literature, comparative literature, and translation studies.
