- This book is original in discussing the range of lexical interactions between English and East Asian languages. It explains the dynamic growth of new words, based on translingualism and transculturalism. Using innovative methodologies in lexicography, it includes big data and social media data, from the historical data of the OED to Google N-gram/-Trends. It proposes that Asian-born English words are not anomalies but assets for Asian Englishes. The book interrogates terms such as ‘borrowing’ and ‘loanwords’, adopting a new dynamic, interactive lexical model. It took 5 years to research and challenges Eurocentric views on lexical interaction an hybridisation.
